Lover of Sindh, a former journalist Writer and the marvelous poet Ishaq Tunio

Ishaq Tunio was born nine years after the independence of Pakistan. In that era, he has learned a lot in childhood about the conditions of country and as well Sindh. That period and its effects had changed his thoughts and also the personality. It is the patriotic love for Sindh, he wrote many marvelous poetry, amongst them the popular songs “HIN JANAM ME, HUN JANAM ME, MAN JITAY B HUJA SINDH TUHNJO THEYAN” sung by the Music’s Queen Abida Parveen. “JHALI AA MITHI SINDH JHOLI, BACHAYO HE DHARTI MITHI BOLI sung by Ahmed Mughal” are the best creation of Ishaq.
Ishaq Tunio a former journalist, writer and poet has represented The Sindh Case at different forums, working as an IT Consultant in USA, where he continuously involved in the advocacy for human rights and the rights of indigenous Sindhis. He has been associated with many Sindhis’ associations like SANA etc. and also established an organization for Sindhis living in the America, named as “Friends of River Indus”.
He opened his eyes (born) in the District Kamber’s small hamlet Thorhi Bijar in the home of small landlord on March, 1, 1956. He received primary education from his native village, Secondary education from the neighboring town Ber Sharif. Later, he decided to get higher education on the University level. Afterwards, Ishaq obtained the degree of B.A (Hons) English from Sindh University, and Masters’ degree in Economics from the Karachi University.
In 1989 he passed the CSS exam, he started career from the Sindhi journalism in 1998 by joining Awami Awaz Sath, then joined The Sindh Express (English) as Sub-Editor. As a journalist he rendered his services at different platforms, He remained regular columnist of Hilal Pakistan newspaper in 1980, and after the eight years joined Awami Awaz Sath as a Sub Editor volunteer), and In-charge of Weekly page (weekly magazine Editor).He interviewed the Late Saeen G.M Syed in 1991, which was transmitted many years later through the radio, voice of Sindh, London. Contributed to several Sindhi, English and Urdu magazines, newspapers and online blogs, and associated with English-Language newspaper The Nation as a staff reporter, senior correspondent and in-charge in Sindh in 1992, and that time he also worked in Daily Pukaar, Sindhi Newspaper. And from 1995 to 1997 he was an Editor of The Indus News Network (online first South Asian daily e newspaper from Chicago).
Being a vocal activist and the member of US-based Pakistani forums and the Sindhi association in North America and Europe, he was offered a ticket in 2007 by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), but later, because of a stronghold of feudal networking, Party denied him a smaller status. Afterwards he took himself far from it.
Now he contributes his time to the literarily and culturally activities as well in the Social organizations. Ishaq has earned his name in the fields of journalism, Social work and poetry through his endless hard work and talent. He is believed as good journalist, writer, poet and also the human rights’ activist. He always stats that “although I live in the USA but my heart and Soul is in the Sindh, whatever happens in the Sindh I keep myself aware about its all issues. When I come to the Sindh, my heart always says no to return USA”.
