Dino jo Pirr Feature by Sonia Shaikh

               Street food in Hyderabad
Marcus Tullius Cicer said 'Cultivation to the mind is as necessary as food to the body'. But is the food we eat cultivating our body?
Street food in Hyderabad is considered its true essence. Though the quality of the food sold in streets is not virtuous yet it is eaten very fondly by all middle and higher class people. Basically when one is bored of home cooked meals, they try the food prepared on carts or the barrows under the dimly lit bulbs. The carts are decorated with the big trays arranged line wise containing chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, beetroots, corns etc. The ingredients are kept in a way that any person other than the workers working for their food cabins, would never like to spoil the presentation arranged beautifully. When the meal is fully cooked it tastes so yummy that one cannot resist but eat it.
From Hussainabad to Latifabad, from Paraitabad to Phuleli, from Heerabad to Qasimabad. Risala road's Shabeer haleem and biryani which is the most selling biryani in the town, Gadi khatta's Kaloo kay pakore, Saddar's Mr. Vaari chaat house and gol gappay. Gidu Chowk's Breeze fish point which is of course very tasty with lots of spices and is more enjoyable when eaten with hot Chappati. Oh and how can we forget Halwa Puri of Tower Market and Chaye (tea) of Khadra Gali! The local crispy samosas and pattees, chola chaat and biryanis, one kebab and egged burgers with a little buttered breads and sandwiches made of boneless chicken and eggs served with red and white sauces and finely cut potatoes with chaat masala sprinkled over are surely mouthwatering but the after effects of eating these meals are harmful for the health. It certainly causes unbearable diseases like ulcer, increase fats, typhoid, cholera, kidney infections, gastro intestinal and many other diseases because the cooks do not make sure of their cleanliness. When only the names sound terrifying then no wonder the diseases itself would be so much horrible. When public was asked that how often they eat out they say 'we eat out at least 4 times in a month out of which our evening snacks are must almost twice in a week.'
Majority of the citizens are totally acquainted with the outcomes of consuming street food and the main reason of causing these diseases is the use of cooking oil which is already used since two to three days. It is estimated that about seventy to eighty percent of people in Hyderabad feast upon street food out of which are the bachelors that live far from their families and are dependent on the cheap eatables. The majority of the chefs say that' We try our best to provide food to our customers as hygienic as possible.' The food rich of fats and the food which contains the ample amount of oil is so delightful and scrumptious that people just cannot help avoiding it but eat it.
Andy Rooney says 'I don't like food that's too carefully arranged; it makes me think that the chef is spending too much time arranging and not enough time cooking. If I wanted a picture I'd buy a painting'. He says true enough. Presentation in serving does matter but when people are out waiting for the food to be cooked and ingest it hurrily and the smell of cooking eatables makes them more impatient, people do not care about the results that they are going to face after eating. The passersby are attracted by the fragrant and the sounds of pop of the food being friend in the hot oil. The solution to these diseases is that people should start making the same eatables in their homes which are more nutritious and healthy because their recipes are as simple as making solution of water and juice powder.
It is okay to enjoy the street food once in a blue moon because this also counts in perks of life.

                                            صلاح الدین 2k11/MC/79

Illegal Parking in Hyderabad
    By Mahrukh
Article Edited by Tooba Naz

Punctuality and discipline are the two important parts of life. One cannot step forward in life if doesn't worth and follow these two. Just alike, if one doesn't follow traffic rules and doesn't value time on road, he cannot move forward on it, even.
These factors can be seen in some of the major cities of Pakistan including Hyderabad. Wide roads seem to be narrow due to huge parking of vehicles at no-parking zones especially at commercial and emergency areas. This causes due to wastage of time and odds for those passing by. As possessing private transport now-a-days has become a trend, massive traffic jam can be observed at many places like Chandni, Autobhan road, Giddu Chowk and Tilak Incline. We also can see huge illegal parking outside the Unit # 8 market, people are park their Cars and Rikshaws in a very misbehaved manner and try to out their vehicles very immediately. Transport and vehicle owners park their vehicles for hours and get busy elsewhere, not caring for pedestrians and traffic that are over their. Parking at wrong place in wrong position becomes obstruction for the flow of traffic. It leaves the impression that everyone considers it his right to occupy road widely.
Some people are fight against double-parked cars and vehicles outside the market and Shopping malls. Such illicit parking is mess not only for traffic on road but also for pedestrians and those on push-chairs. The area which should be used as footpath, now a day is used as parking zone. At busy commercial areas in Hyderabad, pedestrians have to encounter problems and jeopardy as they cannot walk alongside road. They walk too cautiously as to avoid vehicles both on road and roadside. Many accidents have been observed in connection to this. Not only time but it is also a loss of life and property.
Parking at restricted area is a hazard to road and footpath users. Parking restrictions enforcement and a sense of responsibility can surely lead to road safety as well as accessibility of roads and footpaths for everyone. This can save time, property and the most important gift of nature to Life.
To manage the system of illegal parking in Pakistan, Government must have to take action about this issue and also make roads widely and give a separate area to park their vehicles in a well-behaving way. To control this issue, first Government should make roads widely and public must have to cooperate and park their vehicles in a good way.
Government should apply taxes on the people, who have parked their vehicles illegally

Hyderabad Union of Journalists

Hyderabad Union of Journalists

 Waseemullah
As journalism is considered is the eye of the society and individuals related to it are usually sensitive and free-minded therefore they look at every ingredient of the environment. Therefore to see the problems getting solved, a journalist puts that under his pen and that is the matter which causes him to face the harshness and the suppression. For instance, the empty handed journalists become a barrier for such imbalanced aspects of the society. For this purpose journalists of all over the city have to form a unit at a single plate form. To make it done practically, a better and a suitable way is to organize a legal and disciplined union. Where all the journalists could work in a form of a firm whether which organization they belong to, help only broaden journalistic paths. Journalists from all over the country felt the importance of this act, so in the view of such objectives several unions came into being. Following are as follows:
1-All Pakistan newspapers' society (APNS)
2-Counsil of Pakistan newspapers' editors (CPNE)
3-Pakistan federal union of journalists (PFUJ)
All Pakistan newspapers' employs confederation (APNEC)
The first two mentioned unions were concerned with the owners of the newspaper, staff members and editors While rest of the two concerned with the member journalists and employs of different newspaper organizations. APNS and CPNE used to look over the business and policy of the newspapers. While PFUJ and APNEC used to affiliate the unions of journalists and employs of different newspapers and magazines at Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. Mind it, Hyderabad union of journalists (HUJ) was also affiliated with PFUJ which was established in 1954 AC and still it is striving for the welfare of the journalists of Hyderabad.
During Ayyub's Government in spite of organizing National Press Trust (NPT) and the implementation of press laws and the coward behavior of the editors and the owners of the newspapers, authorities were not satisfied with the performance of the journalism. Because the most important part(more or less all the journalists) was collaborated with the liberal PFUJ. In such a typical situation PFUJ leaded a national protest even despite the terrific press laws of Ayyub's government which the newspapers owners joined helplessly. On 21st September the three major ingredient of the industry APNS, CPNE and PFUJ first time united and formed a Joint Action Committee (JAK). Altaf Hussain was recruited as the convener of JAK. Consequently the government was made to talk over the matters by dint of a great struggle because the journalists of the whole country were united for same objective. It is the reason that today, media is conceived as the third one big power of the state.
PFUJ and APNEC kept working together till 1977 even in the presence of two schools of thoughts i-e Rightists (religious) and Leftists (socialists). But in early 1978, PFUJ divided into such ideological groups. The members of rightist thoughts joined Rasheed Siddiqui group while the rest of the members of leftist thoughts remained in Berna group as Minhaj Berna was the founder of PFUJ.
Both of the groups organized their own committees and built their separate offices all over the country. Government dedicated Rasheed  Siddiqui group and presented it as a nominee of the public, journalists and employs of the press. Government also granted the membership of Journalists Village Board to Rasheed Siddiqui group. It was due to the similarity in the mutual understanding of the Rasheed Siddiqui group and Martial law administration.
In 1979, PFUJ began to protest against the censorships implemented upon the press. That protest caused the journalists to suffer from a number of hurdles, one of those strokes was, to arrest the journalists of the leftists' school of thoughts. The Hyderabadi journalism also suffered a lot at that time as Mr. Nisar Channa was arrested from the hometown while Abd-ul-Ghani Dars and Zahid Samoon got themselves arrested after they reached Lahore. Later on they were sentenced to be imprisoned for one year along with ten lashes.
Berna group remained suppressed in such era Siddiqui group had got a great support by government but due to some internal conflicts it broke up into two sects. Obviously one group remained Siddiqui group while another called Dastoor Group. But no longer this partiality remained to exist and no sooner did Siddiqui group dissolved into Dastoor group and collectively called with the same name.  PFUJ faced a variety of afflictions and that effected different divisions except HUJ. HUJ always remained stable in the field and united from inside till 2012. Even during the extreme linguistic riots during 1992, when half of the Karachians and Hyderabadians including journalists were against rest of the half. HUJ neither divided on linguistic basis nor on ideological basis.
HUJ worked for a long time without any office but in early 80s this problem solved, when Radio Pakistan shifted from Helmsted Hall to its new building, that hall was made the first office of HUJ. HUJ also has got an honour that one of its member Mr. Aqeel Ibraheem became the president of PFUJ Dastoor group in 1990s.
In 2012, a turn occurred in the history of HUJ as a unit of Berna group was established in Hyderabad before the elections. Eventually HUJ also divided into Berna group and Dastoor group. For instance, Berna group further divided into two groups just after the elections held in 2013 due to a clash upon some mutual interests. Today, there are three groups in HUJ which are as follows:
Dastoor group
President: Farhan Effendi, Secretory General: Ifran Arain.
Berna group 1
President: Junaid Khanzada, Secretory General: Javed Nisar Channa.
Berna group 2
President: Khalid Khokhar, Secretory General: Mahaish Kumar.
Nowadays it is conceived that the group of PFUJ which the Javed Khazada's group affiliates to, is more strong and influent than rest of the two as it is also recognized by International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). Recently KUJ announced the allotment of plots for member journalists along with the life insurance. This resolution was raised by a member of HUJ at the funeral of a journalist Usman Shaikh.
In the view of long termed-unity in HUJ, it has obviously proved itself as a successful one but still some journalists states that, trade unions are limited only up to the tittle right now. These aren't that much stable even to protect the rights of all the journalists equally. The function of unions has remained only to work for the owner's interest or protests upon the incidents like Hamid Mir's one.
